Sun cover for the long day out
Six hours on the water or the trail is a different problem from a one-hour run. Sunscreen thins, sweat moves it, and the back of your neck pays for it. Cloth does not wear off, which is why the coverage crowd dresses long.
What the UPF number is
UPF is a lab rating of how much UV a fabric lets through: UPF 50 passes about one fiftieth. It is printed per style on the listing, so check the number on the exact piece rather than assuming the range.
Long sleeve without the boil
The trick is the same dry knit as the training line: covered is not the same as hot when the fabric moves sweat and a loose cut lets air through. A hooded long sleeve adds the neck coverage a cap misses.
The long-day kit
Hooded sun shirt, brimmed hat, and shorts with pockets that close. Put the sunscreen on the backs of your hands and your face, and let the shirt handle the rest of the acreage.
